Whenever I see people shaming the body acceptance campaigns etc., I get so very, very sad.
I mean, why wouldn’t you want someone to accept their body? To feel comfortable with the skin they’re in? Why would you want to bring someone down, to make them unhappy because of the cellulite on their thighs or the freckles on their nose? I don’t understand.
What I do understand, however, is what campaigns like Tess Munster’s Eff Your Beauty Standards and similar blogs, campaigns etc. has done for me.
This year I actually had the guts to post a photo of me in my underwear, despite not having worn bikinis since I was 14. I wore shorts for the first time in over two years, because Tess Munster and other people on Tumblr said that it was okay. By posting pictures of themselves, looking absolutely gorgeous in their respective clothing, they told me that it was perfectly fine to wear shorts whenever it’s hot out, and they said it was fine to- if not like them - at least accept your stretch marks. It has boosted my confidence a lot, and I’m so, so thankful for that.
So thank you Tess Munster, for helping me appreciate my body for what it is. Thank you fellow feminists, for showing me that it’s okay to be fat and still rock denim shorts.
It means the world to me.
